Uniqka Unveils the Betsy Collection by Lara Bohinc at Alcova During Milan Design Week 2025
This Milan Design Week, Uniqka collaborates with celebrated designer Lara Bohinc to present the Betsy Collection, a striking ensemble of leather furniture inspired by the natural world. Debuting at Alcova within the historic Villa Bagatti Valsechhi, the collection draws from the delicate beauty of birds, with layered panels mimicking feathers, draped over bold, sculptural and voluminous forms.
“When looking at nature, particularly at fauna, I have always been inspired by birds and how their feathers layer one over the other to create a textured surface that covers their whole body,”says Lara Bohinc. “This inspiration led to the idea of cutting leather into little pieces and assembling them onto wooden frames to create forms that have the warmth and fun of feathered creatures. Working with Uniqka’s dynamic team, my vision has been brought to life in a playful, personality filled collection.”
The Betsy Collection comprises five distinctive pieces: a round coffee table, a side table, a console, a bench and a standing mirror. Each piece is painstakingly handcrafted in Uniqka’s Istanbul workshop by skilled artisans Kerem Aris and Merve Parnas, alongside their team. Using saddlery leather—known for its thick yet supple texture—the artisans cut, treat, and meticulously layer each “feather”, piece-by-piece onto wooden frames, topped with a selection of coloured wood surfaces. The design minimises waste, a common practice for Uniqka, by using leather off-cuts where possible to create each feather.
The historic Villa Bagatti Valsecchi offers the perfect juxtaposition for the collection. Its timeworn walls and architectural details amplify the contemporary yet tactile aesthetic of Betsy, creating a dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation.
