HAUNTED CHANDELIER

The “Haunted Chandelier” by designer Lara Bohinc of Bohinc Studio, was commissioned by Rami Fustok to feature above the The Mandrake hotel’s lobby, an area visible from four levels of the hotel. The impressive gothic “Haunted Chandelier” by Bohinc suspends at 300 cm tall, and is made entirely of steel and jesmonite. It is illuminated by an impressive 30 wax candles, all lit by hand. Whilst the candles are set in clear glass cylinders, the chandelier’s steel points telegraph dripping wax, an effect commonly associated with medieval imagery.

Like many of Bohinc’s designs, the chandelier's fundamental characteristics are industrial and geometric, however the treatment of the piece's surface is textural and organic. Its grid-like design is inspired by cages, stalactites and hanging gardens. Adjacent to the architectural chandelier is the central courtyard, which is surrounded by hanging gardens of jasmine and passion flower, corresponding with the chandelier’s designs. Taking over six months to create, the result is both eerie and monumental.
