LUNAR HOUSE

London Design Festival 2019: Bohinc Studio creates Lunar House with spatial treatment of a listed townhouse

From 16 to 21 September 2019, Bohinc Studio opens its doors with the Lunar House, a pop up exhibition to mark the Moon landing’s 50th anniversary during this year’s London Design Festival. Space and planets continue to inspire the designs of Lara Bohinc, who presents aptly named new pieces such as the Jupiter vase and the Juno box at the Lunar House, alongside the freshly launched Planetaria collection and a selection from Lara’s collaboration with Kasthall.
With the Lunar House, Bohinc Studio presents its signature style in a full interior set up for the first time. The brand comes to life through Lara’s spatial treatment of a Victorian townhouse in the King’s Cross Design District. Curved ondulated walls mix with period and futuristic aesthetics. The walls and floor are dark petrol blue, like the cosmos itself, and the objects and furniture dot the space like stars in the sky. The pieces in cream, tomato red, and sky blue colours, highlighted by brass frames, complement and contrast the dark space. ‘Colour has always been an important part of my design aesthetic, adds Lara Bohinc. I love to use it to highlight contrasts and create bold statements’.

The space is a complete sensory and spiritual experience. For the Lunar House, Lara Bohinc collaborates with Pandora’s Jukebox for the soundscape and Perfumer’s Story for the olfactory environment. Visitors will also have a chance to book workshops and readings by Madeleine Botet de Lacaze from Astrology for Artists, whose presence at the Lunar House adds a spiritual element.

The Lunar House is Bohinc Studio’s first solo exhibition in London. ‘I continue to believe in London’s status as one of Europe’s, and the world’s, most exciting creative capitals. As a Slovenian born British designer, I conceive all my creations in London to then produce them in Italy and Portugal. This year’s London Design Festival is the perfect moment to demonstrate my love for London and the city’s tolerant and truly European DNA.’ Concludes Lara Bohinc.
